Kayleigh's Teaching Philosophy
“If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.” This statement by Isaac Newton from 1675 perfectly encapsulates the act of teaching and learning. As a teacher, I will provide the tools and information that have been handed down to me while simultaneously adapting the information to fit what is most needed by the student. The relationship between the student and me is a highly collaborative one. For the student to succeed, they must be willing and open to having honest conversations about all matters related to their vocal process. As a teacher, I will ensure the space I teach in is built in trust and confidentiality to create an ideal space for teacher-to-student conversations. The conversations range from how the student is feeling physically, at times mentally, and relating how their practice and day-to-day schedule may look. Each of these subjects influences how the student approaches their instrument and the act of singing on a day-to-day basis.
Each student who enters my voice studio has the potential to become their most successful singer, whether that be on stage or at a karaoke bar. Singing is an innate human instinct, and everyone should have the opportunity to learn how to access every part of their voice with confidence and consistency. These skills are accessed not only through technique and repertoire specifically catered towards the student’s needs and goals, but also through music theory, ear training, and if desired, piano skills. My goal as a teacher is to make sure that each student leaves the studio with strengthened skills that allow them to gain the ability to approach real-time vocal and musical questions on their own.
